Why an affair is like a horror movie
You know the best thing about watching a scary movie?
It’s not the monster!
All the good horror movies keep the monster away from the camera.
When I curl up on the couch to watch a good scary movie, I’m after one thing.
No, not fooling around under the blanket. You’re dirty! 😉
I’m talking about the feeling that a spooky film creates.
When the monster jumps out and gives you a fright, that’s a cheap shot.
Seeing nasty blood and guts is bad, but it’s not what you came for.
You came for the suspense.
That feeling of tension when you know something bad is coming but have no idea what it could be. When the music’s dark and deep and you know something evil is nearby.
But you can’t… quite… put… your… finger… on it…
That tension pumps your emotions and focuses your brain like a freshly sharpened razor.
It draws you in and keeps your attention on the action.
Almost like you’re being hypnotized.
You know what else is like suspense?
When you feel that intense lust towards another person, be they man or woman, your body and mind enter a state of unsatisfied desire.
The gap between your hungry loins and the reality of sexual sassifaction creates tension which is almost exactly like what happens when you sit on the edge of your seat as your favorite character wanders into the haunted house where you saw the serial killer hide in the last scene.
Wanting sex and being unable to have creates exactly the same kind of emotional arousal in your mind. Your body perks up with that fight-or-flight response.
Sex and suspense. It’s all the same.
And if you even suspect your romantic sexual partner of cheating?
That ups the stakes to the next level. Now your sexual thrills cross wires with real fear.
Is she hooking up with her boss? Is he sleeping with your best friend’s younger sister?
The suspicion brings up powerful feelings.
When those feelings mix up with the sexual appetite, things get weird and wild.
This is one reason, according to Yours Cutely, why so many men find a possible affair exciting… and why it’s so terrifying and confusing when that happens. It isn’t as common for women, but some of us ladies have a thing for sharing and for being shared.
Who knew that our own bodies were debauched libertine sluts?
Whatever you think… I bet you’re going to have fun next time you watch Halloween 😉
